VARUTHARACHA MEEN CURRY ( Travencore style)


Fish curry from Trivandrum, Kerala, is different from the rest of the state - very spicy & "coconutty" Drumstick is something i have noted in many of the fish curries.

INGREDIENTS

Fish cut into cubed - 2 lb
Shallots                   - 5 nos
Drumstick               -  1 cut into 3 inch pieces
Raw mango            - 1 sliced
Coconut grated       - 1 cup
Red chilly powder   - 2 Tbsp
Coriander powder    - 1 Tbsp
Turmeric  powder    - 1/2 tbsp
Fenugreek powder   - 1/4 tspn
Curry leaves
Oil

PREPARATION

Dry roast chilly powder,coriander powder,turmeric powder and fenugreek powder till the raw taste goes.
Grind coconut,shallots and roasted powders into a paste.
Transfer the ground paste into the fish pot also add fish pieces, drumstick,raw mango,curry leaves and salt.Mix well.
Cook in low flame till the fish and drumsticks are cooked well.
Pour some coconut oil over the fish curry and just rotate the fish pot.
Serve it with kappa or rice.
